Winter 2017

Message from the Executive Director

Happy New Year!

On behalf of all of us at the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre, I would like to welcome back all the educators and staff to the schools. It is my hope that you are well rested and had a wonderful holiday season.

Here are some things to take note of as the new year gets underway:

Our online MFNERC calendar is already filling up with events, workshops and gatherings. Our 3rd annual First Nations Early Learning Conference is Feb. 8-9, 2017. February is also when, for the first time, a regional science fair will be held in Island Lake. And our annual, provincial First Nations Science Fair will, once again, take place in March at the Max Bell Centre at the University of Manitoba.

This year’s Lighting the Fire Education Conference will be held May 10-12, 2017 at the Victoria Inn, Winnipeg, MB. The theme is “Sharing Our Success, Living a Good Lfe” and we are excited to showcase excellence in the field of First Nations education. You can find more information about the conference on our website.

I hope you enjoy this issue of The Arrow. It includes some important information, including a close-up look at the new Manitoba First Nations School System that was signed by nine First Nations and the Honourable Carolyn Bennett on December 16, 2016. The signing was a memorable and historic event and our website features videos, photos, news releases and more information about the ceremony.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact MFNERC’s offices at any time: 1-866-319-4857 or email info@mfnerc.com.

Lorne C. Keeper, Executive Director
