Held yearly in June, National Indigenous History Month is a time for all Canadians to celebrate the history, heritage, and diversity of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. June coincides with the summer solstice, which is a traditional time of celebration for many Indigenous people. Indigenous History Month was recognized through the efforts of the National Indian Brotherhood (now known as the Assembly of First Nations), and it is a time for us to walk together in celebration, learning, and reflection.
