Bear Lake Stevenson Island Elders’ Gathering

Attention land-based education instructors! You are invited to attend the 17th Elders Gathering on Wasagamack First Nation on Stevenson River Ancestral Camp Grounds in Kichi Wapikamack. The gathering starts on August 6 and wraps up by August 8, 2013. The theme of the gathering is “Developing A Local Economy”

Kichiwapikamank is an ancestral camp site which was one of the places where people once rested when they traveled by canoe or dog team from Island Lake to Norway House. The camp is located on the Stevenson River 30 miles from Wasagamack, MB. Elders, Island Lake Community Members and any others who are interested are invited.

Equipment you will need to bring:
a tent and tarps
sleeping bags
cooking and eating utensils
personal and camping items
mosquito coils and insect repellent
rain gear
clothing for cool evenings

Food:
Only flour, lard, baking powder, tea, coffee, cream and sugar will be provided. Wild food will be provided as available.
