“We are the future. Our dreams have no limits.”
As graduation season comes to a close, we want to acknowledge the Class of 2014 in all our FN schools, and share a couple grad ceremony highlights from around the province.
At Sagkeeng First Nation, 18 students graduated from Grade 12. With the Sagkeeng arena transformed and family and friends surrounding them, each graduate entered with his/her escort to cheers and applause. As well, the audience and grads were treated to a delicious meal and numerous encouraging remarks from local dignitaries including celebrated author Theodore Fontaine.
Over at Southeast Collegiate in Winnipeg, 27 young people graduated from high school! It was definitely a family affair as many graduates were escorted into the beautifully decorated gymnasium by their parents, children and other relatives. Then it was time for a few speeches, including one from Treaty Commissioner Jamie Wilson, and finally the moment everyone was waiting for…the diplomas.
These are just two highlights from our First Nations schools. But these kinds of accomplishments are happening all over Manitoba, and it’s so important to celebrate them. Our FN students are making huge strides. They refuse to be a statistic and are living out their dreams of a successful future. We can’t wait to see what that future holds for them.
