Middle Years Health Teacher Guides Contract 

Education Partnerships Program (EPP)

The incumbent will serve as researcher, writer, and editor for the Manitoba First Nations Middle Years’ Health Video Series Teacher Guides. The developer will review the Middle Years’ Health video series and the health curriculum outcomes for Grade 5 to 8. The developer will identify the curricular outcomes covered in the health videos for Grades 5 to 8. The developer will develop the middle years’ health video series teacher guides to support teachers utilizing the health videos for Grade 5 through to Grade 8. It is expected the developer will work with an advisory team as they develop the Middle Years’ Health Video Series Guides. 

The candidate will periodically work with identified Manitoba Education and Training staff for guidance in the development of the guides. In this capacity, the incumbent will work closely with First Nations, MFNERC staff and Manitoba Education and Training consultants to obtain necessary information for the production of the Middle Years’ Health Video Series Teacher Guides. The applicant will have knowledge of First Nations traditional teachings and Grade 5 to 8 health curriculums. The incumbent must be familiar with the structure and purpose of teacher guides. 

The successful candidate will have excellent writing, editing, proofreading and analytical skills. The incumbent will be able to communicate in a clear, compelling and highly persuasive manner. The Middle Years’ Health Video Series Teacher Guides candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, highly organized, and be able to synthesize information and communicate it in a succinct manner. The ability to effectively change writing styles to fit the audience, context and voice of the piece is crucial. The developer will need to provide a plan for implementation of the guides to schools. 

The incumbent will be responsible for the production and presentation of materials created, and/or serve as the main contact with external partners and suppliers with respect to the production, design and completion of written documents. 

Specific Responsibilities 

 Work in consultation with First Nations, the EPP Project Lead, MFNERC staff, and Manitoba Education and Training consultants. 

 Complete research; gather information and interview staff, key stakeholders in Manitoba First Nations regarding Grade 5 to 8 health programming.  

 Prioritize to meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required to complete the guides. 

 Ensure written materials are presented in an appealing and professional manner. 

 Maintain a high degree of motivation and superior work ethic consistent with the culture of the MFNERC team and participate actively as a member of the team. 


Education & Experience 

 Master’s degree in Education preferred or a combination of Bachelor of Education degree and work experience. A minimum of 2-5 years of professional experience in curriculum development. 

 Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record for producing high-quality, persuasive documents. 

 Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead planning sessions and work collaboratively with others. 

 Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational, planning, problem solving, and time management skills. 

 Able to handle information ethically, accurately and confidentially. 

 Team oriented with the ability to work independently. 

 Ability to speak a First Nations language an asset. 

 Knowledge of Grade 5 to 8 health curriculum essential. 

 Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
