“Iye Ohdakapi: Their Stories”

We are very excited to announce the recent publication of Iye Ohdakapi: Their Stories, Manitoba Dakota Elders. Compiled by MFNERC’s Craig Charbonneau Fontaine, Researcher, First Nations Languages.

The publication is a collection of interviews with 18 Elders, gathered in the summers of 1971 and 1972 by interviewer Herbet Hoover. The Elders’ stories convey memories of lived experiences and historical reflection. The recordings capture a moment in time in each Elder’s life, but the ideas and thoughts should enable further enquiry into the field of Dakota oral history.
