Earlier this month, MFNERC held two Middle Years Literacy Roundtables focusing on “Reading Comprehension Strategies to Promote Higher Level Thinking.” One two-day session was held in Thompson, and the other was held in Winnipeg.
This professional development opportunity was facilitated by Deborah Tegg, Donna Prince, Evannah Braun, and Arlene Flatfoot, who are literacy facilitators at the Centre. Some of the topics covered over the sessions included: metacognition, schema, inferring, questioning, determining importance, visualizing, and synthesizing. All of the presentations included hands-on activities for teachers to learn, implement, and experience the resources presented.
