MFNERC COVID-19 Academic Support Solutions

Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre (MFNERC) has developed a comprehensive solution to supporting schools, teachers, and students for Essential Learning while away from the classroom. Essential Learning will provide strong support to academic learning based on a Foundation of Languages and Cultures.

Essential Learning Packages will provide tools to ensure students achieve learning outcomes away from the classroom through lesson plans with learning activities, assignments, and quizzes. MFNERC has leveraged its digital learning environment, Bright-space, to create a customized digital learning environment for MFNERC member schools and teachers as a central access point for all support materials.

Within this digital learning environment, member teachers and principals will have access to Essential Learning Packages for students, Wapaskwa Virtual Collegiate (WVC) courses, instructional resources, and professional development.

Academic Support Solutions for Teachers and Students

The first step to gaining access to these Academic Support Solutions is registering your teachers and students into the WVC Brightspace digital learning environment.

Each learning solution has a Registration Package to help direct teachers and students, and MFNERC staff will contact principals and aid in registering school staff and students.

Once teachers are registered, we can begin to support specific goals to continue essential learning.

OPTION 1: Print Ready Essential Learning Packages

Register Nursery-8 teachers to access online bi-weekly packages and supporting material

essential learning packages

MFNERC will support Nursery-Grade 8 school staff by providing grade-specific Essential Learning Packages (ELP) to continue learning away from the classroom.

These print-ready ELPs are two full weeks of planned learning activities that will allow a teacher and caregiver to support learning away from the classroom.

MFNERC has created ELPs to ensure learning activities are based on a foundation of Languages and Cultures and that these packages deliver learning outcomes for students.

MFNERC has created Languages and Cultures teams to collaborate with local teachers to develop a common Essential Learning Package. The ELP learning activities integrate with the First Nations Curriculum Framework outcomes, and the Manitoba Education Learning Outcomes as learning standards.

MFNERC will provide each registered teacher access to WVC’s digital learning environment to download the ELPs and additional supports. Teachers can add content to the Word document version and customize it to the Essential Learning Package to suit their needs.

Publishing Schedule

The packages will be uploaded every two weeks for schools to use in the digital learning environment, at home, virtual class-rooms, or school classrooms.
