Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! On behalf of Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre, I would like to welcome back all the educators and staff to the schools. It is my hope that you are well rested and had a wonderful holiday season.
Here are some things to take note of as the New Year gets underway:
Our online MFNERC calendar is already filling up with workshops and gatherings, for example the Education Directors’ are scheduled to meet in January and February; and round tables such as the High School Math Achievement Test Marking session are scheduled for both Winnipeg and Thompson.
There is a regional gathering set for March 4-5 at Chief Clifford Lynxleg Anishinabe School, Tootinaowziibeeng First Nation. And March is also the month where we, of course, host our annual First Nations Science Fair.
This year’s Lighting the Fire Conference will be held concurrently with the Western Canada First Nations Education Administrators Conference. The theme is Where Eagles Gather – A First Nations Education Leadership Summit and will showcase excellence in the field of First Nations education with a focus on issues faced in Western Canada. The conference will take place at the Victoria Inn Hotel in Winnipeg, May 6-8. Visit our website soon to learn more and to register.
It is my hope that you enjoy this issue of The Arrow. It includes many interesting and informative stories, including what’s coming soon from our new publishing unit, a celebration of First Nations high school graduates, and a close-up look at the brand new Reading Recovery Teacher Training Centre, launched at Peguis Central School.
