Message from Executive Director
Happy New Year!
With January here, many of our staff are back in the communities and busy with workshops, consultations, resource development and other roundtables and gatherings. Here are some things to take note of as the new year gets underway:
Our special education team has many events planned including a speech language reading regional workshop in February and resource teacher meetings throughout the year.
The 14th annual First Nations Science Fair is March 8-9 at the Max Bell Centre, University of Manitoba. This event is always a highlight of the school year as hundreds of students show off a huge variety of science projects.
This year’s Lighting the Fire Conference is taking place at the Victoria Inn, May 11-13. The theme is, A New Era: Cultural Renaissance in Indigenous Education. The conference will consist of two and a half days of professional development workshops that feature groundbreaking, educational approaches and resources that use First Nations culture to ensure students thrive. For more information on the conference contact Joy Keeper, Conference Coordinator at
