Summer Institutes: A Look Back
August was a busy month at MFNERC. Every year, teachers, principals and other First Nations educators are invited to attend our summer institutes. These informative multi-day events offer courses in a wide range of subjects and, upon completion, many participants are eligible to receive accreditation towards post-secondary education certificates.
This year, the Principals’ Summer Institute, with the theme “School Leadership: A Holisitc Perspective,” provided over 25 participants the chance to network, discuss common challenges and share ideas. It took place at the Qualico Family Centre at Assiniboine Park.
Our Training Institute, along with special education facilitators, spent many hours with over 25 educational assistants. Their two-weeks covered such areas as non-violent crisis intervention, basic ASL sign language, cognitive aspects of communication and assessment. In the end, all participants graduated with a certificate for Education Assistants with Training in Speech Language Pathology.
Other Institutes included Numeracy, Literacy and First Nations Languages.
