Spotlight On: Indian Springs School Graduation

On June 27th, Indian Springs School gymnasium was filled with proud parents, girls in stylish dresses and boys with their best dress shirts on. As well, about one hundred grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters sat in anticipation, bursting with pride. Little ones who are yet to enter the institution of education ran about smiling and laughing, enjoying the festivities.

The kindergarten class, all nine of them, stood in the hallway in their caps and gowns, along with the Grade 4 graduating class also in caps and gowns, excitedly waiting for the Indian Springs School Graduation and Awards to begin. Mr. Mann, principal of Indian Springs School, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event.

The opening of the graduation ceremonies included a procession of graduates accompanied by an honour song and an Elder’s prayer. Welcoming remarks were given by Chief Meeches. In her touching speech she stated, “With the support and guidance from parents, and grandparents, we can continue to have successful students. I would like to also recognize the teachers who are with our children and our grandchildren every day. Also the teacher assistants, and all the other staff, including the school custodian, who keeps the inside and outside of our school looking beautiful. Keep up the great work!”

Really wanting that diploma!

Then the awards ceremony began and each award category recognized one student from Kindergarten to Grade 7. They awards were:

Most Improved Student Award

Highest Academic Achievement Award

Good Citizenship Award

Excellent School Attendance Award

Sports Awards

Award recipient

Once this portion of the celebration was done, there was one award each for the; Perfect Attendance, a Science Award, and to a student who was respectful to fellow students, teachers, always helpful, and in the words of Mr. Mann, “She makes everybody smile”, the Principal’s Choice Award.

Following the award presentations it was time for the kindergarten students to receive their diplomas, Then, it was the Grade 4 graduates’ turn to receive their diplomas. The teachers and administrators of Indian Springs School did an amazing job the entire day. Family and students alike were beaming with happiness in the halls and outside of the school.
