CKP 2023: A successful and smooth conference

The 2023 Circle of Knowledge and Practices Conference was a great success! Not only was it visited by numerous VIPs, like the Grand Chief of the AMC, the AFN Regional Chief for Manitoba, the Treaty Relations Commissioner, and the Deputy Minister of Education, but it also included the new Premier-elect Wab Kinew, who walked in the Grand Entry and sat down with the Walking Wolf Singers and Dancers for a drum song.
With over 900 attendees, which were entirely MFNERC and MFNSS staff, and over 40 workshops, CKP 2023 provided professional development opportunities that will be taken back to member First Nations schools and used to enhance the classroom experience for First Nations students.

The keynote speaker, Rosalie Tsannie Burseth, was able to speak during the lunch on the first day but also held a workshop for those interested in better hearing her message.

We would like to thank all the Elders, First Nations leadership, Walking Wolf Singers and Dancers, staff, and others who contributed to a successful conference. Special thanks to Elder Wally Swain, who held our pipe ceremonies every morning, and Long Plain Chief Kyra Wilson, who invited us to hold the conference in Treaty One territory.
