Are you a First Nation student with a passion for education? Do you dream of igniting your future through academic pursuit? The Lighting the Fire Scholarship is here to recognize and celebrate your dedication to learning.

Purpose:

At the Resource Centre, we believe that education is a powerful tool for empowerment and transformation, and we are committed to supporting students on their journey towards academic excellence. The Lighting the Fire Scholarship honors the pursuit of education among First Nation students from communities serviced by the Resource Centre and/or MFNSS.

Selection Process:

Selection for the Lighting the Fire Scholarship will be conducted through a random draw of all those who apply to each category. Our goal is to be inclusive of all applicants without judgment, ensuring equal opportunity for all eligible students, who apply.

Important Dates:

📅 Lighting the Fire Dates: May 8-10, 2024 

📆 Application Deadline: May 31, 2024

Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be First Nation a student from communities serviced by the Resource Centre and/or MFNSS.
• Candidates must provide proof of First Nation status (status card or letter).
• Applicants are required to submit a biography.
• Proof of post-secondary acceptance (letter) and/or confirmation from attending school confirming graduation (letter, email, verbal) is necessary for applicable scholarships.
• Resource Centre and MFNSS staff are not eligible to apply for these scholarships.
• Post-Bac, Masters, and PhD students are not eligible.

Award Categories & Process: 

• Grade 12: Four awards at $500 each
• Mature High School Diploma: Four awards at $500 each

Students attending post-secondary institutions:

• 1 Year Certificate: Two awards at $1000 each
• 2 Year Diploma: Two awards at $1000 each
• 3-5 Year bachelor’s degree: Two awards at $1000 each
