It is with great sadness that the Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre (MFNERC) learns that Nitamabit/Nii Gaani Aki Inini (Elder Dave Courchene) has begun his final journey. A spiritual and community leader, his loss will be felt throughout the country, if not the world, and the staff and management at MFNERC send their deepest condolences to his family, friends and the community he loved, Sagkeeng.
“Over many, many years, Elder Dave touched a lot of lives and there are people mourning his loss throughout Manitoba and beyond. He was a library of teachings on First Nation beliefs, ceremony and worldview. I am sure, he will be joining his proud ancestors, and exceptional father, on the other side. We all wish him well on his journey to the land of Spirit,” MFNERC’s Executive Director, Charles Cochrane says.
